Government B - No Public Education

Government B does not support public education

What distinguishes Government B from Government A? There is one major difference. Government B does not believe in public education. It believes every child deserves a private education. It believes that parents are the primary educators of their children, and need to have complete control over the education of their children. This means that Government B believes in private schools, paid for primarily by the parents of the children who attend them, and secondarily by generous grandparents and friends who voluntarily give to an endowment or other fund established by and for each school.

This means that Government B does not choose to fund the public school system in Cherry Hill, but that each member of that government either pays for the education of their own children in private schools or at home, or, if they have no school-aged children, may voluntarily give to the school of their choice.

Government B believes that public education has misdirected funds from those things that contribute to a good education to those things that diminish the likelihood of success in school. In the past, funding has not gone in a timely way to proper maintenance of schools, leading to costly repairs which regular and proper maintenance would have prevented the need for. In addition, monopoly education has resulted in bloated bureaucracies. Alternative school systems such as the Catholic schools in the area, have proven that a very good education can be provided on a very tight budget. That budget would not have needed to be so tight if the parents of the children in those schools had not also been paying for the education of others in the tragically broken public school system.

Clearly, many people disagree. Those people will choose to continue to fund public education by remaining loyal members of Government A. That's the way it should be: everyone having a real choice.
